How to Prepare for a Kitchen Renovation
A practical checklist for planning a kitchen renovation, from layout and lead times to setting up a temporary kitchen.
A kitchen renovation affects daily life more than most projects. Preparing well makes the process smoother.
Decide on layout early
Moving sinks, hobs and appliances is possible but affects plumbing, electrics and ventilation. Decide on the layout before ordering units.
Understand lead times
Units, worktops and appliances can take several weeks to arrive. Stone and quartz worktops are usually templated after the base units are installed.
Plan the services
Gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and electrical work must comply with building regulations. Confirm who will do this as part of your project.
Set up a temporary kitchen
A kettle, microwave and a table in another room can make the weeks without a kitchen much easier.
